Dave Baker has been awarded the ‘Unsung Hero’ Award at the Thameslink Programme Railway Systems Awards event held at The Kia Oval on the 24th June 2011.
The event was held to celebrate the Railway Systems' excellent track record of delivering the works for Key Output 1 safely and on time.
Presentations were given by Andy Duffin (Railway Systems Director), BBRP / BBRS, Carillion, Invensys and UKPN. Guest speaker on the day was 2003 Rugby World Cup winner Kyran Bracken, who spoke on Leadership & Motivation based around his own experiences and the build up to winning the Rugby World Cup in Australia.
There were 10 categories of awards, ‘Pride’, ‘Determination’, ‘Team work’, ‘Respect’, ‘The Network Rail Promise’, ‘Outstanding Team Performance’, ‘Outstanding Individual Project’, ‘Dedicated Safety Award’, ‘Unsung Hero’ and ‘Most Entertaining Moment’.
Dave’s ‘Unsung Hero’ Award was for the "Team or individual who is keeping the ship afloat with minimum fuss and can be relied upon to always make it happen." Well done Dave, thoroughly deserved.

Dave was also nominated for the ‘Pride’ Award and made the final three but lost out to David Blakely of Network Rail. BCM Construction was also part of the ‘Outstanding Team Performance’ Award where the works carried out at Luton over Easter 2010 came top of the 12 nominations.
In the ‘Dedicated Safety Award’, BCM Construction made the final three due to our outstanding safety record of only having 1 RIDDOR since we started work on the Thameslink Programme back in January 2008.
Well done to all of you, keep up the excellent work.
