Contract BBK860 Package 5

As part of the Network Rail Electrification and Plant (E&P) team for the Infrastructure Investments function, BCM Construction have been delivering High Voltage Feeder Renewals schemes. The first major package of work undertaken by BCM was BBK860 Package 5 which consisted of 6 High Voltage Feeder Routes.

  • Feeder 1010 - Faversham to Graveney (Kent)
  • Feeder 1028 - Canterbury East to Bekesbourne (Kent)
  • Feeder 1013 - Herne Bay to Reculver (Kent)

These 6 routes combined cover a distance of approximately 22Km of railway. The High Voltage Feeders have come to the end of their operational life and need to be replaced to improve train reliability and to remove the oil filled assets from the infrastructure. The scope of work undertaken by BCM Construction included the following:

  • Project management.
  • Materials management and logistics including material deliveries along the routes.
  • Renewal of cable containment routes consisting mainly of pre-cast concrete troughing, and glass reinforced plastic (GRP) troughing.
  • Construction of new under track crossings (UTX’s).
  • Delivery of new cables using the Network Rail Cable Train and Road Rail Vehicles (RRV’s).
  • Security of the new cables from delivery to energisation.
  • Cable jointing and testing.
  • Commissioning of the new High Voltage Cables and Pilot Cables.
  • Recovery of the redundant cables and equipment, including purging of oil insulation in an environmentally friendly manner.
