Japanese Knotweed Case Study

BCM Construction has undertaken the removal & management of Japanese Knotweed infested areas on a number of projects such as Thameslink and Crossrail. To achieve this successfully it required:

  • An initial survey and mark out of contaminated areas.
  • Set up of a Japanese Knotweed Management Plan in line with the Environment Agency Code of Practice for managing of Japanese Knotweed.
  • Chemical treatment of infested areas.
  • Removal of Japanese Knotweed contaminated spoil.
  • Setting up and operating boot and wheel wash facilities to contain Knotweed Rhizome.
  • Providing detailed briefings on Japanese Knotweed to all operatives and visitors.
  • Correct disposal of contaminated spoil.
  • Creating decontaminated access roads and work areas and fencing off Japanese Knotweed areas with the relevant warning signs.
  • Installation of barrier membranes for access roads, work areas and foundations.
