In May 2010 BCM Construction were awarded the construction of 3 substations as part of the Power Supply Enhancements Programme of works.
The Woldingham site was constructed behind the station platform at Woldingham Station. Access to the site was through the station car park, this involved close liaison with local businesses adjacent to the station ticket office. The site also shares a boundary with a residential property and was a very sensitive site in terms of construction noise and stakeholder management. An acoustic noise absorbing screen was constructed around the transformer equipment to mitigate against noise pollution.
The site itself was a double tiered site using a gabion wall to form the two levels. Access for maintenance personnel is provided with cast in-situ concrete staircases. Tree planting was also undertaken on completion of the site to screen the site from the neighbouring property.
BCM Works at Woldingham included:
- Construction Project Management.
- Removal of existing trees to make space for the site.
- Goundworks to create a double tiered site.
- Construction of the gabion retaining wall.
- Construction of reinforced concrete foundations for electrical equipment.
- Construction of Under Track Crossing (UTX).
- Post hung GRP cable containment from the substation site to the UTX.
