Harlington Platforms Case Study

On a design and build contract BCM Construction extended platforms 1 and 2 at Harlington Station as part of the Thameslink Programme. Platform 1 was extended: 77.4m. Platform 2 was extended: 77.1m

Both platforms were constructed on 8m Grundomat piles and pile caps, along with mass pour concrete foundations. To carry out the installation of Grundomat piles, BCM Construction used in-house resources and purchased new piling equipment. We now own, operate and maintain the necessary equipment that allows us to ensure reliability, availability and the highest standards of work. We have a 10-strong team now fully trained in the installation of Grundomat piles. One of BCM Construction’s key factors for delivering successful projects is the extensive investment we make in developing our people and resources.

The platforms were built on a crosswall construction using precast beams and hollow core planks. The extension on platform 1 was mainly to the Country End with a small lift to the London End ramp to allow for driver-only access. To the rear of platform 2, a new OLE base was constructed for a new structure.

Other Works Included:

  • Installation of tactiles behind the existing coping stones on platform 1.
  • Installation of fencing.
  • Installation of glass reinforced plastic (GRP) litter screens.
  • Installation of lamp columns.
  • Installation of stairs to the ends of platforms 1 and 2.
