As part of the Portsmouth Area Infrastructure Upgrade Project a platform re-alignment and extension was needed on platform 4 at Southsea Station.
The re-alignment works over 145 metres involved the de-construction of the platform front wall to facilitate construction of a new front wall along the new alignment. At the same time the platform was extended by 75 metres.
The platform works at Portsmouth and Southsea were undertaken during a five day blockade over the Christmas holidays. The construction type used was a solid fill platform. Works were carried out concurrently with a re-alignment of the adjacent permanent way.
This project had very tight timescales. BCM Construction were only given five weeks to design and mobilise for the Christmas blockade. The project was a resounding success and delivered safely, on time and within budget.
Works included:
- Project Management
- Platform Design
- Platform Construction
- Design & Installation of M&E Systems (lighting and public address)
