BCM Complete state of the art driver accommodation at Gidea Park Station for MTR Elizabeth line.27th May 2021
To enable train services to run on Crossrail MTR were required to provide additional state of the art accommodation units to support the Driver Managers, Drivers and Cleaners along the route. Gidea Park is one of the locations where this new accommodation is required.
BCM began the works at Gidea Park for MTR Elizabeth line, in December 2020, building new Train Crew Accommodation and Cleaners Accommodation whilst improving the surrounding area including parking facilities, a bicycle shelter and EV charging points. Works include all the subsurface and surface infrastructure such as drainage, paving, external lighting and CCTV which has now been completed on time and under budget.
These works were designed to take due account of the latest design requirement for SUDs (Sustainable drainage system) utilising permeable surfacing, attenuation tanks, flow restrictors and dams, to ensure no excess surcharge is directly issued into the adjacent watercourses.
MTR Elizabeth Line is the operator of the Crossrail concession and is currently running TfL Rail services between Liverpool Street and Shenfield, Paddington and Hayes and Harlington, Heathrow, and Reading. The company’s operations will eventually cover all aspects of train and passenger service operations.
Gidea Park station is on the Great Eastern Main Line, serving the neighbourhood of Gidea Park in the London Borough of Havering, East London. It is 13 miles (21.7 km) down the line from London Liverpool Street and is situated between Romford and Harold Wood.
New TFL Rail trains have now been introduced between Shenfield and Liverpool Street, and when the full route opens (becoming the Elizabeth line), passengers will be able to travel through to central London without having to change trains. At peak times 12 Elizabeth line services an hour will run between Shenfield and central London, calling at all stations. An additional four services an hour will run between Gidea Park and Liverpool Street station.
With the majority of works now being completed to accommodate the new fleet. This new fleet will offer numerous benefits to customers including:
- High-capacity trains, 200m long, each featuring nine walk-through carriages
- CCTV, WiFi and live travel information
- Environmental efficiency
Having effectively completed the works at Liverpool Street station, BCM are proud to be playing a key role in the introduction of the Elizabeth Line, by utilising our multidisciplinary. This was made possible through our Enable consortium made up of BCM, CHS and Equate Design. the Enable consortium was built upon the desire to streamline the supply chain, reinforce quality control and deliver projects with trusted partners as a ‘one-stop-shop’.
James Cook, PM for MTR has said:
