BCM Hold Three Day HSQE Workshop9th March 2017
BCM is committed to ensuring that everyone who works with and for us returns home safe and healthy at the end of the working day. Everyone plays a role in this and by working with our employees and our supply chain we will realise this goal.
To aid this continual improvement process, BCM has developed a series of Health and Safety workshops for site staff to provide a forum for open, honest and mature dialogue from key people from all sectors of our transport infrastructure contracting business to enhance the wellbeing of our staff.
The company selected the slogan “Watch my Back” because it recognised that safety is not about individuals. BCM has embedded a caring and nurturing culture, which focusses on supporting one another and watching out for each other.
189 staff from our Civil Engineering, Electrification, Environmental Management and Signalling teams, were recently invited to share their thoughts about health, safety and wellbeing during the fifth of a series of three-day engagement workshops.
Staff listened to presentations on effective communication, healthy diet, mental wellbeing, driving awareness and fatigue. The team also reviewed accidents and incidents – including watching some powerful rail industry contracting footage.
HSQE Administrator Ulana Fries, who supported the event said:
“We were able to share real-life situations, giving the team the opportunity to discuss what lessons could be learnt and suggest what improvements could be made to make all our lives safer. By sharing our collective knowledge, we are stronger together.”
Staff also made suggestions on how working environments could be made safer through closer alignment of shift patterns, more training for specialist work, increased feedback from Close Call reporting, more site visits and additional safety forums and workshops.
