BCM Volunteers Services to CXK to Support Young People and Families Across the South East21st July 2017
A green-fingered group of volunteers has given the garden at Phase 2 Youth Club a major makeover.
The 11-strong group of 16 to 25 years olds carried out a recycling-themed refurbishment as part of the Prince’s Trust Team Programme.
Starting with an overgrown and unkempt patch of land, the team cleared the area by hand before laying wood chips down and installing benches made from wooden pallets and flowerbeds fashioned from old tyres.
The wood chippings were donated by Shepway District Council and transported to the site free of charge by BCM Construction.
Ross Sutherland, Team Leader at CXK, a charitable organisation that supports young people and families across the South East, said: “We would like to thank both Shepway District Council and BCM Construction for supporting this group of young people to complete their community project element of their Prince’s Trust Team Project journey.
“Their generosity has enabled the young people to create a garden that gives those who attend the Phase 2 Youth Club and Community Centre a great place to relax.”
The 12-week Prince’s Trust Team programme, launched by HRH Prince of Wales in 1990 and coordinated in Kent by CXK, helps young people who face significant barriers to gaining employment in the long-term by providing them with confidence, motivation and work-related skills.
“The course helps people uncover hidden talents, assume responsibility for tasks and overcome barriers, giving them the confidence and skills to take the next steps; moving into employment, education, training, volunteering or an apprenticeship.”
